Fairlawn-West United Church of Christ will celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 22nd with a gathering for a prayer for the earth at 1:00 PM.  There will then be a "hike" around the neighborhood between Sand Run Road and Pershing Avenue to collect litter along the streets.

Conversations at Fairlawn-West include now looking at alternative forms of energy for the church building and doing more environmentally sensitive landscaping around the building.

The Hiking Group at Fairlawn-West will be hiking the O'Neill Woods trail on Tuesday, May 2nd.  Hikers meet in the church parking lot at 9:00 AM.  The Hiking Group hikes the 1st, 2nd, and 5th Tuesdays of the month as well as the 3rd Sunday afternoon of the month.

The Canoe Group will be on their 6th annual trip this summer on the Buffalo River National Scenic Riverway in northwest Akrkansas.  They will be canoing and camping the week of June 26th.  Previous rivers they have been on are the Current River in the Ozarks of Missouri, the upper Allegheny River in Pennsylvania, and the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River in KY & TN.

The Fairlawn-West Church building is at 2095 West Market Street in west Akron, next to the park with the Chief Rotaynah carving and in front of the new Judith A. Resnick Community Learning Center, the former Fairlawn Elementary School.  For more information you can call the church office at 330-864-2179 or visit the web site at fairlawnwest.org.

Yikes, I fer we've been spammed with the other comment. Anyway, hoping to make this walk/clean up. Akron is absolutely Shangri La in the springtime.
