week of Feb 1 2009

Here is a link for the bulletin/program for Sunday, Feb 1. Our theme for the 9:30 am worship service is "Giving Up Freedom." The reading is from the apostle Paul's first letter to the (1) Corinthians 8:1-13. The issue in this part of the letter is the question of whether it was a problem if members of the Corinthian church ate meat at meals that previously been offered as sacrifice to idols. Paul says that it doesn't harm those who are mature in their spiritual life, but it causes confusion for those who are new to this journey with God in Jesus Christ. Especially for those who have previously worshiped idols and offered such meat. He encourages those more spiritually mature to "give up your freedom" and not eat the meat. What is it that we who are more spiritually mature presume is our prerogative and fail to realize that our actions and words cause confusion and struggle for the novices...new ones on this journey?

Enrollment is now open for the Fairlawn West Preschool for the school year 2009-2010.
